ABOUT
Yoga Room is a neighborhood studio in Highland Park, Pittsburgh.
We offer more than yoga. We host workshops, conversations, and gatherings on the stuff that reaches beyond the mat – creativity, community, values, vocation, and the ongoing project of being a human in the world.
We make room for it all.
our story
Yoga Room grew out of six years of building community through The Salon PGH.
Through hundreds of gatherings and umpteen newsletters, we learned that people appreciated a dynamic speaker and well-designed worksheet.
But what they valued most was a sense of belonging. Regular contact. Accountability. People who noticed when they hadn't been around. People to live life with. A place to drop the mask.
Yoga Room is our attempt to build that place – to pair exceptional instruction in a physical space designed for regular practice and repeated encounters.
Though the room is new, the values are not.
our ETHOS
-
Body, mind, and spirit are not discrete categories. The way we move shapes the way we work, relax, create, and care for ourselves and others.
Our classes and programs reflect that understanding and are designed to support the whole person. Though physical transformation is likely, it is not the only goal.
-
An attuned relationship with the body is the foundation for an aligned life. It strengthens the capacity for clarity, self-knowledge, and groundedness amid the demands of daily life.
A regular movement practice offers a reliable place to check in, notice where you’ve drifted, and return to center.
-
Our culture is grounded in openness and unpretentiousness. Though we strive to provide a well-designed space with excellent instruction, there is no pressure to wear your best outfit or show off heroic headstands. This a space to exhale and regroup; no performativity required.
-
While self-care is vital, we see it as a starting point rather than a destination.
We believe practice is a way of becoming more present to the world – more awake, more connected, and more capable of courageous participation in collective life. It supports not just self-optimization, but also self-transcendence.
-
We take seriously the fact that people are practicing in the same room. Our programming is designed to build connection among participants (albeit gradually and without pressure)!
The goal is a studio where people know each other’s names and support each other’s growth. Anonymous adjacency this is not.
